Forum of Swiss History Schwyz
The national historical museum in the alpine region
Experiencing history and culture
One of the Alpine region’s key museums of cultural history is housed in a former granary and arsenal in Schwyz. As the central Swiss headquarter of the Swiss National Museum since 1995, the Forum of Swiss History Schwyz invites visitors on a voyage of discovery into the world of our ancestors.
Occupying some 1,400 square meters, the permanent exhibition uses extensive information in four languages as well as multi-media and interactive stations to illustrate the everyday life of the Swiss Confederates from 1300 to 1800, while temporary exhibitions and various special events focus on the central Swiss region.
More than 800 intriguing objects from all corners of Switzerland have their stories to tell, and their share of history to relate. Audio stations, information points, videos and computer terminals all help to make Swiss history tangible. Ask for an audioguide and take a journey through time.
With its changing Special exhibitions, events of general interest, discussions, educational offerings, lectures and concerts, the Forum is an important cultural centre for the Swiss interior.
